How do I refer to The OT with a Key?
You can ask your Doctor to send the referral to The OT with a Key using the referral form here –
A Qld Gov Medical Certificate for Motor Vehicle Driver (Form 3712) must be completed by your Doctor and included with the referral. The form can be found here –
How long does the assessment take?
The assessment involves two parts – a pre-drive assessment and on-road assessment. The pre-drive assessment is conducted in the comfort of your home, and typically takes one to two hours, and the on-road assessment takes one hour.
Will the on-road assessment be completed in my own car?
The on-road driving assessment is completed in a Driving Instructor’s vehicle with dual controls (brake and accelerator). If you require vehicle modifications, the assessment with be completed in a Driving Instructor’s vehicle with the modifications you need.
What kind of vehicle modifications are available?
There is an incredible range of vehicle adaptations to make driving as inclusive and safe as possible for everyone. For example, The OT with a Key may recommend a different steering wheel to improve your safety on the road if you have difficulty with steering, or a left foot accelerator if you have an injury to your right leg.
Can I have a support person in the car during the assessment?
You are more than welcome to have a family member or support person with you during the pre-drive assessment, however, a support person will not be able to be in the car during the on-road assessment.
Can I have the assessment if my license has expired?
If your license has expired, you will need to contact the Department of Transport on 13 23 80 for an ‘Authority to Drive’ permit prior to the assessment.
This process may take a couple of weeks, so please ensure you let The OT with a Key know if your license has expired.
Can I have the assessment if I am still on my L’s?
Yes – We are able to complete the assessment for learner drivers, but you will need to pass your learner’s theory test and hold a valid learner’s permit.
Where is The OT with a Key located?
The OT with a Key accepts referrals for clients in Brisbane, Toowoomba, Gold Coast and Sunshine Coast.
